Liverpool supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in nine years courtesy of a 5-0 aggregate thrashing of Porto in the last 16.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into the return leg at Anfield on Tuesday night having thumped the Portuguese outfit 5-0 in the first leg three weeks earlier, thus all but booking their place in the last eight of Europe’s elite competition. And the Reds saw the job through at Anfield on Tuesday with a goalless draw against the Primeira Liga leaders, in turn sealing their spot in the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009, and very much thrusting themselves into contention for the title come May.
As such, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be further intrigued by a recent report from Don Balon, which suggests that the Merseyside giants are eyeing up a possible move for Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal this summer.
The 26-year-old made the move to the Bernabeu back in 2013 and has since gone on to play 190 matches for the European giants, scoring four goals and laying on 29 assists in that time to help Zinedine Zidane’s men to the La Liga title last season, and indeed three Champions League crowns.
And reports suggest that Liverpool boss Klopp is an admirer of the Spain international, and as such is reportedly keen on making a move for the £40.5 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) in the summer in a bid to bolster reinforcements at Anfield.
But with Carvajal reportedly not seeking an exit from Real this summer, it very much remains to be seen whether it’s a deal Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy can get done in the close season.
Landlord’s verdict: Dani Carvajal has played a key part in helping Real Madrid to several major titles in recent years, making the right-back spot his own since his return to the Spanish capital in 2013.
And the 26-year-old’s fine efforts for Zinedine Zidane’s side have reportedly attracted the interest of Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, who are reportedly eyeing up a possible summer deal for the Spain international.
But with the return of Nathaniel Clyne imminent alongside the solid efforts of Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold, it’s hardly an area of the squad that needs attention, although there’s little doubting that landing Carvajal would bolster that department were he to move to Anfield.
