The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their club can make a big signing to fill the void left by Philippe Coutinho this month.
After one of the lengthiest transfer sagas in Premier League history, Coutinho finally completed his long-awaited move to Barcelona earlier today, in a deal worth £146 million according to Sky Sports. The departure of Coutinho at the midway stage of the season has certainly left a bitter taste in the mouths of the resident reds propping up the bar in the Tavern. With their qualification for next seasons Champions League looking set to go down to the wire, the supporters are concerned that their Brazilian wizard’s departure could derail their season.
However, if Klopp is able the complete acquisition of another quality player this month, Liverpool should have no problem fending off competition from their rivals to seal a place in next seasons Champions League.
Considering the breadth of options available to Klopp in Coutinho’s position, Liverpool should consider bringing a centre-forward to the club this month instead of a number ten.
Roberto Firmino has lead the line for The Reds for the majority of the season so far, but his preference to collect the ball from deep make him an ideal candidate to slot into Coutinho’s position for the remainder of the season.
Liverpool also have Adam Lallana to call upon, and even Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could perform an admirable job in Coutinho’s absence.
On the other hand, Liverpool are lacking quality with their options up-front, considering Daniel Sturridge is desperately short of match fitness, and Dominic Solanke lacks experience at the highest level of English football.
Taking these points into consideration, Klopp should do everything he can to bring a proven centre-forward to Anfield this month, rather than a replacement number ten.
