Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a statement made by their former player, Harry Kewell. The Australian has tipped Mohamed Salah to challenge Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon d’Or whilst speaking with TalkSPORT. Whilst Liverpool fans would love to see their magic-man win the award, they can’t help but disagree with Kewell’s prediction.

Mohamed Salah does deserve the plaudits he’s getting from football fans at the moment. The Egyptian has scored an obscene 28 goals in 31 league matches in his first season at Anfield and recently hushed his very few doubters as he put four goals past a sorry Watford. The ex-Chelsea and Roma man is set to smash the record for most goals ever in a Premier League season as he canters towards the Golden Boot and aims to put his name among the likes of Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.

Although Salah’s incredible season deserves the praise he’s getting, Liverpool fans think it might be a step too far to be touting the 25-year-old to win the Ballon d’Or. The award has been dominated over the last ten years by the incredible rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The pair have won five each since 2008, stamping their names among football’s all-time greats. For Salah to break the ten-year spell of Ballon d’Or dominance would be an incredible feat, more so than his current Premier League heroics.

Taking that into account, here’s our resident Reds’ verdict on Kewell’s comments:
