The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been responding to comments made by their dominant central defender, Virgil van Dijk. The Dutch international joined the club from Southampton in the January window and has brought an air of calm to the Liverpool back line. During an interview for Liverpool’s Website, van Dijk claimed that he feels really settled in and that he’s getting better since his move to Merseyside.
“Do I feel settled in now? Yeah, definitely."

The comments from the Liverpool man has left the Reds propping our bar up very happy. Since his arrival, Jurgen Klopp’s defensive line has looked a lot calmer on the ball and have eliminated a number of the individual errors that they were infamous for last season. Since the Dutchman’s arrival, ‘keeper Loris Karius has also looked to have moved up a level as he’s usurped Simon Mignolet in the Anfield goal.
The shaky Merseyside defence, that once looked as if it didn’t belong to the same team as the vibrant attacking force at the other end of the pitch, has improved ten-fold since the 26-year-old made the journey north from St Mary’s to Anfield. Liverpool fans will be hoping that Virgil van Dijk can help to propel Liverpool into the semi-finals of the Champions League, at the expense of Manchester City, and help the Reds secure a spot in the Premier League’s top four.
With that in mind, here’s our local Reds’ verdict:
Just make him captain already
