Liverpool supporters continue to make a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern after seeing their side pick up yet another victory, this time at the expense of Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their encounter with the Cherries off the back of a 2-1 win over Manchester City in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, thus clinching an astonishing 5-1 aggregate success over the newly-crowned Premier League champions. And the Reds made it back-to-back wins on Saturday as goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino sealed all three points for the Merseyside giants, thus moving them to within a point of second place Manchester United in the Premier League table.
Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Reds fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their side can continue their fine recent form between now and the end of the season, especially as they have a Champions League semi-final with Roma to come.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Liverpudlians to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that Monaco may consider selling reported Liverpool target Thomas Lemar this summer.
And these recent reports must prompt Klopp’s side to up the ante in pursuit of the 22-year-old, as landing him this summer would no doubt bolster their attacking ranks ahead of a likely Premier League title push in the 2018/19 season.
Ultimately, while he hasn’t enjoyed the best of terms this time round, the France international was hugely integral in leading Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season, with Lemar bagging 14 goals and laying on 17 assists in all competitions for Leonardo Jardim’s side, who also reached the last four of the Champions League.
Yes, the young forward hasn’t quite been at the same level this term (nor have Monaco in general), but he still has eight league assists to show for his efforts to further underline his ability and credentials, credentials which can no doubt help Klopp’s Liverpool next term.
Clearly, the Reds will be eyeing up a title challenge next season having got the measure of newly-crowned champions City in recent weeks, but their 0-0 draw at Everton a few weeks back highlighted the need for greater depth in the forward ranks.
Klopp started with Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke against the Toffees, and while neither are bad players, they simply aren’t in the same league as messrs Mane, Firmino, and Salah, who have scored a sensational 82 goals between them this term (for the record, Ings and Solanke have both failed to net this season).
Thus, while the attacking trio of Mane, Firmino, and Salah have been irresistible this season, Klopp needs some depth in the forward ranks if they are to challenge City next term – Lemar’s arrival would bolster that department.
And these recent reports that Monaco are open to listening to offers for the 22-year-old this summer must prompt the Merseysiders to up the ante for the Frenchman, especially with Arsenal also thought to be interested.
