The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the summer transfer window. It’s been an exciting year or two for the Citizens, with Pep Guardiola really overseeing a period of change at the Etihad.

Last summer, in particular, the Citizens spent big – with the likes of Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy coming in to revolutionise the Man City defence.

A similar level of change is expected this summer, but this time, it appears as though it could come in the form of new midfield recruits.

According to Goal, Man City will be looking to improve their midfield options this summer, with both Fred and Riyad Mahrez on their radar. Significantly, though, contrary to popular belief, neither player will necessarily be their first choices – with the Citizens instead ready to consider their options and potentially even move on to other targets if need be.

Though it remains unclear as to why Man City are ready to consider new targets, it will certainly come as a surprise to our resident Citizens. After all, as Goal reports, a move for Fred looked likely in January – but now it appears as though that deal is up in the air.

It will certainly be interesting to see who Man City end up going for, but one thing is clear – the midfield is the weakest area of the first team. Fernandinho has been forced to shoulder much of the defensive responsibility, whilst David Silva has been relied upon in the offensive third.

With both players now over 30-years-old, bringing in a fresh face or two would be great business, and our resident Man City fans can’t wait to see who will be selected.

Landlord’s Verdict

You can’t exactly say that Man City are struggling in any area, given their dominance, but Pep Guardiola is clearly keen to take his already incredible team to the next level.

The last few years have been about revolution, but this summer is more likely to see an evolution – with a few key faces coming in.

Man City certainly have the funds to make a big signing or two, and it will be interesting to see what route they take.
