Manchester United can expect another big year of transfers under Jose Mourinho, with the former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss surely set for another massive splurge.

The Portuguese has spent hundreds of millions since his arrival in 2016, but has failed to deliver a Premier League trophy during this period. With another year of failure on the horizon given Manchester City’s presumably unassailable lead at the top, Mourinho has it all to do over the course of the next two transfer windows if he is to turn United into English and European title contenders. United fans here in The Transfer Tavern know all about that, and are keen to see what their manager does in the market this month.

Our landlord loves a chat with the lads from Manchester, who love nothing more than discussing transfer gossip in extensive detail, also the favourite past time of our landlord. Over a game of pool, there was a clear agreement that a new winger was of high priority at Old Trafford, with a number of names touted as potential targets for the club this month. However one fan was keen to see a player with current ability, but young enough to improve drastically in the north west, and our landlord couldn’t help but blurt out the name of Christian Pulisic.

The 19-year-old American international stormed into the first-team set-up at Borussia Dortmund in 2016, and has quickly established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet at the German club. A regular top performer, Pulisic has emerged as one of the most consistent stars at the Westfalenstadion, and his versatility is an attribute that will prompt Mourinho to intensely the scout the bright young talent. Able to play across the frontline and midfield, Pulisic is exactly the type of player Jose needs if he is to turn United into the top dogs of European football once again, and a move for the player this month could serve to land the club silverware this month.

Unavailable for Champions League action having represented Dortmund in the competition, Pulisic will help claw back the ever-growing gap between United and City, and put the club in good stead for a title challenge next semester. Sign Pulisic, and Mourinho could have handed United their first choice wide man for the next thirteen years.

United fans, is Pulisic the type of winger United need? Let us know!
