The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are fearing the worst regarding the future of David De Gea this summer, with the Spaniard touted with a move to Real Madrid in recent weeks…

This will, undoubtedly, be an issue that is concerning Jose Mourinho too, but the Portuguese manager reportedly has a plan. According to Manchester Evening News, Man Utd are considering Benfica goalkeeper Ederson as a potential replacement for De Gea this summer, as the club begin to draw up contingency plans for his potential departure.

Ederson is certainly a player that has impressed as of late, emerging as a top young goalkeeper whilst between the sticks for Benfica this year. Much like De Gea, he is a top shot-stopper and is comfortable with the ball at his feet – and so he would likely take over seamlessly from the Spaniard should the move come to fruition.

That being said, the last thing that Man Utd want to do this summer is lose De Gea. The Spaniard is undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s, and indeed Europe’s, top goalkeepers – having improved drastically for Man Utd in recent years.

The 26-year-old is a key player for Mourinho, and our landlord thinks that regardless of who replaces him, Man Utd will be worse off with De Gea out of the team.
