Cole looks set to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer on a Bosman after contract discussions broke down with the European Champions.
The England international’s present deal expires in the summer and he has been strongly linked with a move to the continent with Qatar-funded French giants Paris Saint Germain who are managed by his former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti.
However the Express reports that the move is very much dependent on under pressure Ancelotti keeping his job at the Parc des Princes. If he is dismissed then City would move to the front of the queue to sign Cole.
Neither Gael Clichy, who was at fault in today’s Manchester derby defeat to United, or Aleksandar Kolarov have been the solution to the problem left back position at the Etihad Stadium and it now appears that Mancini is preparing to turn to Cole as the answer.
City would definitely be able to offer the defender the sort of wages he desires and despite his age, recent performances have demonstrated that the 31-year-old is still one of the best left backs in the world.
