The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been ripping into Liverpool legend John Aldridge after comments he made (to the Liverpool Echo) about the difference in atmosphere between The Etihad and Anfield. Liverpool face Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals next month in a mouth-watering tie for both sets of fans.
”I’ve been lucky enough to experience some very special European nights at Anfield over the years where the place is rocking and we have to add Man City to the list”, he said.
”Some of their players will shake when they feel the atmosphere we create. They won’t have heard anything quite like it.”
The Citizens propping up our bar will be looking forward to their two legs against Liverpool as they’ll be out for revenge on the Reds for the 4-3 defeat Jurgen Klopp’s side inflicted on the Sky Blues back in January. Liverpool are one of just two English sides to beat Manchester City in 90 minutes this season and are the only side to inflict defeat on them in the Premier League this season.
Manchester City will be coming into the tie as the favourites, with Guardiola’s all-conquering football supposedly too much for Liverpool to overcome over 180 minutes of football. The two sides have faced twice in the league this season, with both sides picking up three points, however, the aggregate scorelines for the two games finished 8-4 to Manchester City as they ran riot at The Etihad earlier in the season, beating the ten-men of Liverpool 5-0. Whatever happens throughout the tie, the football is not to be missed as we’re guaranteed an English team in the Champions League’s last four.
After all this talk I would love it if we went there and got two quick goals inside 10 minutes

Why is this getting played up so much? Anfield is not even one of the loudest grounds in the world. Sure our players have experienced worse just hope we smash them coz all they have done is go on about atmosphere in one half of the tie

Etihad doesnt generate a atmosphere…….
Buts still Liverpoll lost 5-0.
Cant imagine the score sheet if Etihad does come alive.

I love how the scousers think Anfield has an amazing atmosphere. Barring YNWA before kick off it’s as much a library as anywhere else. We went to Napoli and won this season, and they have 1000x the atmosphere the scousers ever will
