Manchester City fans here in the Tavern are delighted with the manner in which their side has paved the way for success this season, as a European triumph is very much the main aim for Pep Guardiola. 

The Citizens have been a dominant force so far this season in the Champions League, with their only loss in this competition coming against Shakhtar Donetsk, after fielding a weakened side. But, this clearly didn’t have any effect on their round of 16 first-leg encounter with FC Basel, as Guardiola’s side inflicted a 4-0 defeat on the Swiss outfit with the next round now very much in sight.

Of course, having returned to England with a four-goal lead under their belt in preparation for the second-leg, this gives the Manchester City chief an opportunity to give some of the youngsters a chance.
