4341442Metro have claimed that Manchester City have played down links with Barcelona star Lionel Messi, and that has made our punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern a little bit disappointed.

The club of course have the money to buy just about anyone they want, and now it seems that one of the very best players of a generation will not be joining the club.

City spoke out about the links, and claimed that Messi is not on their radar – for now.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini  noted the speculation linking the forward with a record breaking move, and claimed it was, ‘Just rumours’.

As one of our punters notes over a beer and a burger combo, we note that City really do think the sky is the limit, and Messi is just about the most coveted player on the planet.

We dread to think just how much the player would cost, but know that the Citizens have the money, meaning we would never rule a bid out.

Elsewhere, City are of course looking to boost their defensive line this summer, and we think that is just about the only position they need strengthening in!

Would Manchester City be wasting their time anyway? Is Messi going to stay at the Camp Nou for life? Let us know your thoughts below.
