talkSPORT informing us that Sir Alex Ferguson has sent his brother Martin on a scouting mission to Spain to run the rule over an exciting young striker from Rayo Vallecano.
Twenty-year-old forward Leo Baptistao is the man attracting the attention, with it understood that the Brazilian is available for as little as £1.6 million.
Martin Ferguson was in the crowd to witness Rayo’s 3-1 win over Getafe at the weekend, and although the striker wasn’t on the scoresheet, he was left suitably impressed by his performance which saw him provide an assist for the final goal.
With Danny Welbeck rumoured to be leaving on loan – possibly to Reading – and young forward Angelo Henriquez already being loaned out to Wigan Athletic earlier this month, a fourth choice striker may be needed at Old Trafford. And with Baptistao at just 20-years of age, Sir Alex will be confident of shaping another gem for the future.
The youngster has been featuring as a loan striker this season for Vallecano, and has managed six league goals in 17 appearances.
He will be better known for his days playing alongside Brazilian superstar Neymar in the Brazilian youth set up, where he was tipped to be a future star.
Illness and injury have somewhat hindered his progress up until now, but no doubt Sir Alex will be backing his ability to get the very best out of him.
