Manchester United fans here in the Tavern are hoping to welcome back some of their injury-stricken stars real soon, as the Red Devils look to make the most of this season’s openings.

Jose Mourinho has been extremely unfortunate with injuries this season at Old Trafford, as United’s star of last season Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to live life out on the sidelines. Indeed, the Swedish powerhouse was the key component to United’s Europa League success last campaign, but this year he’s only managed to add one goal to his tally after a reoccurring injury has hampered the striker’s progress. However, there’s positive news emerging for all United fans involved, as according to reports in the Sun, Manchester United are hopeful of Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning to first-team action before the end of the month.

Indeed, the Swedish sensation has been sidelined for the majority of the current campaign, after a cruciate ligament injury has later led to him still feeling the effects of it in recent times. And, since his most recent injury setback they’ve opted not to rush things, as they continue to work on the core fitness of the 36-year-old, with progress being stepped up in the past couple of days. Subsequently, the next step for the striker is to start ball work at Carrington towards the end of this week, as they strive towards getting the veteran primed and ready to make a return to proceedings.

And, an Old Trafford source had these words to share about the progress of Ibrahimovic’s injury:

“He has not been comfortable with his core fitness levels and wants to make sure he can finish the campaign.

“The last few days have been good for him. He’s running at about 85 per cent with no issues.

“He’ll continue ball work soon as well. It’s a clear sign he’ll be able to join his team-mates on the pitch in the near future.”

Landlord’s Verdict:

Indeed, after reportedly agreeing to join MLS side LA Galaxy at the end of the season, Manchester United are hoping to give their star of last season a happy ending in Manchester. But, with it still all to play for in the race for a Champions League spot this season, the Red Devils won’t be rushing to get the striker back into their starting line-up. However, for a player that showed some of the best goalscoring touches witnessed at Old Trafford in seasons gone by, fans will be pleased to see the talisman back in their ranks for the remainder of the campaign.
