The punters in the Transfer Tavern have hugely enjoyed watching the age of top-class strikers in the Premier League take shape.
Indeed, the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal all boast wonderfully clinical marksmen these days, so it wasn’t surprising to see a few of them nominated for the PFA Bristol Street Motors Player of the Month Award.
United’s Romleu Lukaku joined Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata, City’s Sergio Aguero and Spurs’ Harry Kane in being put up for the prestigious gong, along with Pep Guardiola’s midfield maestros David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.
Well, perhaps unsurprisingly, Lukaku drew first blood and picked up the first monthly award of the campaign. The £75m man’s seven goals and one assist convinced voters to vote for him vote run by fan engagement experts, Snack Media.
The Belgian international striker won 53.7% of the vote, convincingly knocking Spurs and England goal machine Harry Kane (15.8%) into second place, much to the delight of our resident Red Devils.
The voting period covered both August and September and there is no doubt that it’s was only Kane’s zero return in August that prevented him from pushing his Premier League rival a little further. The other contenders from the final shortlist polled as follows:
Alvaro Morata – 15.6%
Kevin De Bruyne – 7.6%
Sergio Aguero – 5.1%
David Silva – 2.2%
Voting for the Championship PFA Bristol Street Motors opens at 10am, visit www.footballfancast.com/pfa-awards to cast your vote.
