The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern believe they need a big transfer splurge over the summer if they are going to catch up with Manchester City, as well as other Champions League rivals.
Indeed, despite spending millions upon millions since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, the punters propping up our bar don’t think their beloved Red Devils are anywhere near the best of the best on the continent and are hopeful of some big name arrivals.
With that in mind, reports emanating out of Spain have proven rather interesting. Bizarrely, according to Don Balon, Mourinho is keen on raiding former club Real Madrid for their young star, Marco Asenso. The Spanish international started his Los Blancos career superbly, though has recently taken a back seat in the Spanish capital as the club continue to struggle under Zinedine Zidane.
Still, Mourinho is said to be convinced he can bring the best out of Asensio and would even reportedly be willing to include David De Gea in a sensational swap deal, splitting the opinion amongst our United-mad punters. As you can imagine, they’d love to see Asensio arrive, though watching their star shot-stopper depart would be gutting.
Asensio would be an absolutely fantastic signing for United, though not at De Gea’s expense. The midfielder would add so much in the way of creativity between the engine room and the attack, though allowing De Gea to depart would deprive the club of their rock.
