Though the draw away at Stoke City is still annoying many of the Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern, it’s otherwise been a wonderful start to the campaign under Jose Mourinho.
Indeed, ahead of their return to Champions League action, our resident Red Devils are largely in agreement that the only thing that could better what’s gone on in recent months would have been the signing of Gareth Bale.
As ever, the Welshman was strongly touted as an Old Trafford target as doubts about his future at Real Madrid swelled.
However, in a revealing interview the 28-year-old has given to the Daily Mail, the Los Blancos superstar hinted the reason as to why he won’t leave the Spanish capital anytime soon, despite the continued excellence of Cristiano Ronaldo as the club’s main man.
The footballing world was shocked when Paris Saint-Germain broke a world record to sign Neymar from Barcelona earlier this summer, with the Brazilian option to step out of Lionel Messi’s shadow at the Camp Nou in order to be the star of his own team.
Still, tempting a prospect as that is, Bale has revealed he’s more focused on winning trophies, something he’s done plenty of during his time with the La Liga champions.
‘Well there’s an argument for that,’ he said when asked about Neymar’s situation, ‘but I think the main thing, when you look back on your career, is that you look at your trophies. In the end that’s probably the most important thing.’
That’s one of the first times we’ve had some real insight into Bale’s thinking about Ronaldo remaining at the very top.
Though many expected him to take up CR7’s mantle, the former United legend keeps delivering, though Bale seems more focused on adding to his trophy cabinet than furthering his own personal success.
With that in mind, it’s hard to see him leaving Real Madrid, who have one of the best squads ever assembled and continue to win trophies under Zinedine Zidane.
