Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for another three points tonight to keep the race for second firmly in their hands.
Jose Mourinho want’s to finish best of the rest this season, after local rivals Man City seemingly have the Premier League wrapped up. After a terrific comeback against Chelsea last weekend, the Red Devils will surely be looking for an easier match tonight.
Many of the regulars who have been watching United this season have been impressed with the progress made under Mourinho. Although it’s not the football everybody expects to see at Old Trafford, they are still second in the league, in the quarter-Finals of the FA Cup and still in the Champions League, so it’s barely a state of crisis at Old Trafford right now.
Our landlord says it’s the best season in the league so far since they won it last in 2013 for United, though tonight they need to keep things ticking over and he takes a look at two players that should be dropped for the difficult match against Palace…
The Swedish defender is still finding his feet in the Premier League, and even though his performances are improving by the game the return of Eric Bailly from injury is a much better option at the moment. Lindelof will come good, there is no doubt in our barman’s mind about that, however, at present, he’s still a liability.
Ashley Young has been in decent form this season and often been preferred to natural left-back Luke Shaw. However, with the recent displays from Shaw, it’s been surprising to many in the bar that he’s been dropped in the odd matches in favour of Young.
Indeed, against a tough Palace side, the youthfulness and pace of Shaw should be the preferred option, and one that our landlord agrees on.
