Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin has said he wants to stay at the club beyond his loan spell which is set to expire at the end of the season.
The Turkish midfielder rejoined his former club after an unsuccessful loan spell with Liverpool, whom he only joined on a season long loan from Real Madrid in the summer.
After a loss of form, Sahin admits he his happy to be back at Signal Iduna Park and wants to stay for the foreseeable future.
“I just hope this story here will last for a long, long time. I know where I want to be. And I am there now,” said Şahin, speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten.
Sahin continued: “I can only play 100 per-cent when I am happy. This wasn’t the case at Madrid and Liverpool. That’s why I wanted to return to Dortmund.”
He was also keen to defend his time at Real Madrid, claiming injury prevented him from showing his best form at the Bernabeau.
“I thought about this a lot, it cost a lot of energy. I knew things would have been different if I hadn’t been injured. But that was my fate.
“It might have looked like I failed. I would not see it like this. During my time at Madrid, I suffered injuries to my intra-articular ligament three times over a short period of time.”
Sahin had hoped to rebuild his career at Anfield following Liverpool’s summer long battle with Arsenal for his signature. However, after three goals and three assists in 12 games, Brendan Rodgers was happy to let him return to Dortmund, with just seven Premier League appearances to his name.
