Newcastle United interested in January move for Germany international attacker

The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned by their reported transfer policy. Mike Ashley is supposedly refusing to give Rafa Benitez funds to sign new players unless he sells some first. This is likely to limit Newcastle to three or four loan additions, which has got Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern worried ahead of a potential relegation battle. But they are likely to feeling a lot better after hearing the latest transfer rumour.

The Sun is reporting that Newcastle United are keen on bringing in Andre Schurrle on loan from Borussia Dortmund. Stoke City are also in the hunt to complete the loan signing of Schurrle, who is struggling for game time at Dortmund, but Newcastle are thought to be leading the chase.

Rafa Benitez is a big fan of the former Chelsea man, who scored 11 Premier League goals in 44 outings during his one and a half year stay at Stamford Bridge. Since then, the 57-cap Germany international has returned to his homeland, playing for Wolfsburg and then Borussia Dortmund.

But with game time hard to come by at Dortmund, a loan move could be on the cards this window with West Ham United also keen earlier on this January.

The Verdict

This would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle, Stoke or West Ham. The 27-year-old would be able to bolster their attacking regions with versatility, skill and an eye for goal. With a relegation battle possibly looming for all three sides, bringing in Schurrle on loan seems like a no-brainer.
