The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have taken to Twitter to call for their club to open up the chequebook and bring Raheem Sterling back to Anfield. he 23-year-old winger chipped in with 23 goals in all competitions for Manchester City this season, including 18 in the Premier League and with two lots of contract talks both failing, Sterling could be on the move this summer.
Whilst most Liverpool fans look at Sterling as a ‘snake’ or a ‘turncoat’, there are no question marks over his obvious talents. The young Englishman has been absolutely superb under Pep Guardiola in Manchester City’s record-breaking team. The 23-year-old has teamed up with the likes of Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne to stamp himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous players.
The winger left Liverpool back in summer 2015 for a fee of more than £40 million, however, in today’s market, it’s unlikely that Sterling would go anywhere for less than double that. Add that to the fact that Guardiola won’t want to sell the England man and contract talks will resume after the World Cup and it would make it near impossible for any club to sign Sterling, especially a direct rival in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
You can read our local Reds’ verdict on Sterling here:
Can’t grasp why people wouldn’t have sterling back at Liverpool. One of the best attacking talents in the country, can play anywhere across the front line and in the 10. Yes he moved on in a bad way but I’d easily get over that to add his 23 goals to our attack force next year! pic.twitter.com/cMsNOMtvNj

Would have Sterling back in a heartbeat but if he can’t agree a deal with City his wage demands must be way out of our range.

Seeing a lot of Sterling back to Liverpool polls this evening.
Personally I'll take him any day although how he left us was wrong.
The truth is if we don't show ambition as a club and win trophies, we will loose our best players and the fans will just be hating on them.#LFC

It’s true that Sterling didn’t leave Liverpool on the best of terms, but when a player of his quality becomes available the fans will have to put their bitterness behind and accept that if the player improves the squad then the club should make a move.
