Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are a bit bewildered as to what is happening at the club at the moment.
Chelsea have won the only couple of games so far this season and the pressure is building on boss Antonio Conte. With two poor transfer windows and a team that is seemingly running on empty in the centre of the park as summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko continues to struggle.
With that in mind, the latest link from German outlet Kicker (via the Sun) with Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara must be music to our regular blues ears.
Munich may be looking to reshape their ageing squad, and their loss could be Chelsea’s gain. The Spaniard would be perfect for the Blues need right now and a potential long-term heir to the excellent Cesc Fabregas. However, even with a threadbare squad, it seems that a few players may have to make way as Stamford Bridge bosses look to balance their books a lot more now than they used to.
Our landlord takes a look at two possible departures out of the Stamford Bridge door…
The summer signing from Monaco, even though he has played the majority of the season, seems to be a liability in the centre of the park. Many of the regulars feel he’s either not cut out for the rigours of English football in the Premier League or he is struggling to adjust to life in London.
Furthermore, with N’Golo Kante in the midfield, the Frenchman’s chances of regular first-team football will be further restricted. Time to go, especially if he continues to play like he did at Watford.
The Chelsea star currently on loan at Celtic is an exciting talent there’s no doubt about it. However with the arrival of another midfielder, and that of the calibre of Thiago, Musonda will find it hard-pressed to find regular game time at Stamford Bridge.
Our punters think that he may move on to further his career after getting a taste for consistent football up in the Scottish Premiership, potentially attracting interest from some big European clubs if he can take the SPFL by storm while clad in green and white.
