The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Mauricio Pochettino will bring in a new striker in January. Fernando Llorente hasn’t had much of an impact at Wembley since swapping Wales for England, and with Spurs still competing on several fronts, Harry Kane can’t be expected to lead the line on his own.

Pochettino, then, would be wise to bring in a proven goalscorer, and he would struggle to do better than West Ham forward Javier Hernandez – who is rated at £16.2 million by Transfer Markt.

The Mexican has had a nomadic career and has played for a number of teams, but one thing has remained consistent: he has always scored goals. His current stint at West Ham aside, Chicarito – as he is affectionately known – has been prolific both in Germany and in England. He, of course, rose to prominence for Man Utd – becoming a reliable and consistent rotational option at Old Trafford. During his pomp in Manchester, he regularly picked up 10+ goals per season, which is a remarkable record given that he often struggled for regular starts.

When given regular starts, as he was in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, that record went through the roof. He bagged 28 league goals during his two-year stint in the Bundesliga, which is a testament to his quality.

It hasn’t quite worked out for him at West Ham, but that’s down to the playstyle utilised at the London Stadium. At Tottenham, where passing, moving and dribbling are all encouraged, he’d be right in his element.

With the news that West Ham could be willing to cash in on him, according to Sky Sports News, then, Tottenham should make their move. Do you agree?
