The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Pep Guardiola will finally be able to make use of their side’s academy during his tenure.
The Citizens have invested a lot of time, money and effort into their academy, but thus far, it has been unable to bear much fruit.
With the club prioritising success and silverware, youth development has, naturally, taken a back seat, and that has led to a lack of progress in recent years.
Pep Guardiola, though, has shown more of a preference towards younger players, and a few individuals – notably Alexander Zinchenko and Phil Foden – have been given occasional chances this season.
However, there is much work to be done, and that has been reflected by a recent announcement over on the official Man City Twitter page. They’ve confirmed that young Pablo Maffeo – a right back – has joined VfB Stuttgart on a permanent deal.

The talented 20-year-old has been on-loan at Girona this season, but he clearly felt that a permanent change of scenery was needed, with his chances at the Etihad seemingly looking bleak, and so a move to Germany has been decided on.
Unsurprisingly, this has solicited quite a reaction from the Man City fans over on Twitter, many of whom are feeling rather frustrated at the news.
Indeed, they seemingly had very high hopes for him, and as one fan has eloquently put it, the Citizens could live to regret this one.
Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
We all hope there is a buy-back clause! He has been excellent for Girona FC.
