The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern were once again left frustrated by a lack of goal scorers in today’s 1-1 draw with Southampton. Harry Kane scored yet another goal – his 99th in the Premier League – but the lack of another top striker held them back from grabbing a second goal. Therefore, Spurs are likely to look for a new striker in the January window.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro this January. Spurs will look to bring in Gameiro on loan but they face competition for his signature.
Swansea City had been extremely keen on bringing the 13-cap France international to South Wales in a £25m deal but he is not keen on joining the Premier League relegation contenders. Turkish giants Fenerbahce are also interested in buying Gameiro.
Spurs are looking to loan him in but Atletico Madrid would rather sell the 30-year-old as they have too many strikers in their squad following Diego Costa’s arrival. Gameiro has previously played in France with PSG, Lorient and Strasbourg and enjoyed a prolific spell in Spain with Sevilla between 2013 and 2016.
Kevin Gameiro on loan could be an interesting option. The diminutive striker adds a different dimension to towering forward Fernando Llorente. His arrival would lighten the burden on Kane and give him the chance to be rested ahead of a busy run-in. A loan deal would be low risk too if they could pull it off.
