Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team seal a routine 2-0 victory over Premier League relegation candidates Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter with the Terriers unbeaten in their previous 16 games in all competitions, an impressive run which has seen them move into the top four in the Premier League, and indeed closer to a berth in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. And the North London outfit strengthened their hold on fourth place on Saturday as a Son Heung-min double sealed a comfortable success over David Wagner’s side at Wembley, thus setting Spurs up perfectly for the return leg of their Champions League last 16 clash against Juventus this evening.
As such, there have been many buoyant Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom will be sincerely hoping that their side can produce another fine display to get the job done against Serie A champions Juve tonight, and thus seal a place in the last eight of the Champions League.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Spurs supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking defender Jan Vertonghen with a move to Italian giants Lazio.
The 30-year-old has become one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs during his time in North London, and has thus played a key part in Spurs ascent up the division, and indeed their growing presence on the European stage.
Yet reports suggest that Lazio are eyeing the Belgium international as a possible replacement for Stefan De Vrij, who looks set to leave the club at the expiration of his contract in the summer.
And were Vertonghen to indeed leave Tottenham during the close season, here are TWO other stars who could follow him out the exit door…
Erik Lamela only returned to first team action for Tottenham back in November 2017, this all after a year out with a hip problem.
And while the Argentina international has appeared in all 16 of Spurs’ Premier League matches since then, he has only made three starts, with Son Heung-min continuing to prove his worth to Pochettino and thus keep the 26-year-old out of the side.
And Lamela has reportedly been linked with a move to Inter Milan in the past few weeks given his lack of playing time in North London, and were the situation to remain the same between now and the end of the season, a move away this summer could well be in the offing for the winger.
Were Tottenham to miss out on Champions League qualification, and perhaps not win a trophy this season, striker Harry Kane could well leave the club this summer.
The 24-year-old has once again exceeded the 30-goal tally this term having bagged 35 goals in just 37 games for Spurs, equalling his tally from last season in what is the third time he has scored above 30 in the last four seasons.
Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid have been linked with a move for the England international in recent times, and with an overhaul expected at the Bernabeu, it’s a deal which could well take place this summer.
