Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been struggling this morning, after a late night coming home from Wembley having watched their side bow out of this season’s Champions League at the hands of Juventus, despite being the better side for most of the tie. Spurs lost 2-1 on the night after Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain scored within three minutes of each other to cancel out Heung-Min Son’s opener.

The tie marked the first time Spurs had reached the Champions League knockout stages since 2010/11 season where they reached the quarter-finals before being humiliated by Real Madrid. This was a different campaign though as the Tottenham faithful who have been propping up our bar saw themselves top the competition’s “group of death” containing Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and APOEL Nicosia without defeat and match Juventus blow-for-blow before being narrowly edged out.

The Lilywhites battled bravely against Serie A’s champions, Juventus, fighting back from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw in Turin, a result that swung the tie in Spurs’ favour before the Old Lady’s Argentian duo struck to put Spurs out of Europe. After the game, Juventus’ legendary central-defender, Giorgio Chiellini, cited Spurs’ mental and defensive fragility as to the reasons they were beaten.
