Spurs fans here in the Tavern are incredibly proud of some of the stars they’ve managed to produce over the years, as they relive the glory of some of their ex-players.

Tottenham have uncovered some of the world’s superstars in seasons gone by at White Hart Lane, and Mauricio Pochettino looks to continue on with this trend as he develops a bright future for some of Spurs’ youngsters. Indeed, after seeing Luka Modric’s time in North London go down in the folklore of the club, our local residents here in the Tavern would do anything to see him back in the white shirt at their new stadium. However, the Croatian didn’t leave the club on the best of terms, and according to an interview from Modric with Four Four Two, the Tottenham legend is very regretful about the way he left Tottenham and wishes he would have departed in a nicer way.

Indeed, there seems to be some unfinished business between Spurs and Luke Modric, as the Croatian departed on difficult terms for fans to take, after attempting to force through a £40 million move to London rivals Chelsea. And, although he didn’t end up making the move across to Stamford Bridge, the former Tottenham star is still very apologetic as he continues to live out his days in Madrid.

The world superstar spent four seasons with the Lilywhites in which he managed to accumulate 13 goals and 15 assists, in arguably some of the most enjoyable years in the 32-year-old’s successful career. And, his sublime efforts for Spurs didn’t go unnoticed during his time at White Hart Lane, after he was crowned the Player of the Year for the 2010/11 campaign just a year prior to his departure.

However, for a club that welcomed the midfielder with open arms back in 2008, the Croatian repaid the fans for their continuous support with his football on the pitch, after becoming one of the best midfielders to ever grace the historic field at White Hart Lane. And, with nothing but incredible memories back in North London, Luka Modric shared these words about his departure and the club:

“I’m sorry for the way I left Tottenham. I wish we’d parted in a nicer way”
“I had a fantastic relationship with the people at the club, and also the fans. The whole atmosphere in and around the club at that time was brilliant, and our results were mostly very good.”

“Do I still follow their results? Yes, when I have time,”

“They play the kind of enjoyable and attacking football that I like to see, and I definitely think Spurs could win the Premier League title in the near future – they’ve got excellent players.”
Landlord’s Verdict:
Luka Modric will forever be known as a legend in most parts of North London, as a world superstar that lived and breathed for Tottenham Hotspur. And, having shared some very admirable comments about the club and his apology, Spurs fans will be sure to find a place for him back firmly in their hearts.
