Spurs fans here in the Tavern are looking forward to their Champions League knockout encounter with Juventus, as European glory is not too far away for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham have had one of their best European campaigns to date as Mauricio Pochettino’s men have already bypassed the challenges of world champions Real Madrid, and now eye up success at the expense of Juventus. Of course, when facing up against last year’s finalists in the knockout stages you’ll welcome all the help you can get, and Spurs look to have received a huge boost, as according to reports from Sky Sports, Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi is a doubt for the clash.

The Frenchman suffered a thigh injury in the Italian club’s 7-0 victory over Sassuolo after only managing to complete 26 minutes of the match. And, with tests already being completed that have determined his injury as a slight strain, further evaluation will need to be undertaken to officially determine how long he’ll sidelined for.

Tottenham will welcome the news with open arms after struggling to produce any sort of consistency in recent times, as Juventus’ unfortunate loss is Spurs’ gain. Indeed, with Spurs looking to improve on their previous record of reaching the quarter-finals, they have the best chance of doing so as the current batch of players rounded up by Pochettino is the best our residents have seen in years.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Blaise Matuidi will be a huge miss for the Italian side as a defensive midfielder that’s offered a second line of defence this season, which against a Spurs team filled with attacking talent could see them exploited at times. Although this is a huge boost for fans it’s still going to be the biggest challenge of the Lilywhites’ season so far, against one of the world’s most potent attacks.
