West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited for the future under Manuel Pellegrini and are eager to see some new faces at the London Stadium.
The ex-Manchester City boss was handed the reins after David Moyes’ contract expired with the club. The Scot replaced Slaven Bilic and steered the club away from danger but was not seen as the right man to take the Hammers forward. Instead, Pellegrini will return to England looking to transform the club into European contenders.
There are many areas in the squad for Pellegrini to strengthen now the transfer window is officially open. Landing a new goalkeeper will be a priority. Joe Hart spent last season on loan from Manchester City, but the Hammers should look to pursue other options following some awful performances.
A perfect signing could be Swansea City stopper – Lukasz Fabianski. The Pole was a shining light in a miserable season for the Swans which culminated in their relegation from the Premier League. Valued at just £4.5m by Transfermarkt, he has only one year remaining on his contract meaning he will be available for a reasonable price.
The 33-year-old is in his prime and would be a significant upgrade on Hart. Last season, he averaged more saves, saves per goal, and catches than the former England international according to Squawka. The former Arsenal keeper also retained a higher distribution accuracy which makes him more suited to Pellegrini’s attacking style of play.
He’d be a fantastic signing to kickstart the Pellegrini era.
