The Tottenham Hotspur fans were absolutely devastated in the Transfer Tavern last night after they watched their side crash out of the Champions League at the last-sixteen stage following a thrilling encounter against Juventus.
Many had predicted Spurs to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League after they managed to claw themselves back from 2-0 down to bring a 2-2 draw back to North-London following their first-leg clash three weeks ago, but those predictions proved to be unfounded last night as The Old Lady used their European experience to great effect and recorded a 2-1 win at Wembley.
Heung-Min Son initially made the breakthrough on the night with a scruffy finish just moments after he had smashed a clean strike narrowly wide of Gianluigi Buffon’s left-hand post. From that moment forward it seemed as if Spurs would have the beating of the travelling side, but Juventus produced two moments of magic in the space of just three minutes to break Tottenham hearts and send the Italian giants into the quarter-finals.
The Lilywhites faithful found it difficult to criticise their players in the aftermath of proceedings, as they gave everything they could over the course of the two legs and were rather unfortunate to be beaten. However, plenty of the supporters did have some negative words to say about Dele Alli, but not due to the quality of his performance.
Alli’s tendency to dive has become something of a dominant topic amongst football fans across the country in recent weeks, and plenty of fans once again took to Twitter to accuse him of diving following a challenge from Miralem Pjanic last night.
Here’s what the fans on Twitter have had to say about Alli and his diving habits…
