# Profit Players: Jeff Hendrick has been consistent throughout his four years at Burnley

**This article forms part of our Profit Players feature series, which is where Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at how well a player has fared since being signed or sold, using statistical figures and statements from pundits to prove how good of a deal the club managed to achieve.**

Four years ago, Jeff Hendrick was heralded as one of the standout performers for Republic of Ireland at Euro 2016, with the country’s [all-time record scorer](https://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/guinness-world-records-not-keen-on-robbie-keanes-goalscoring-exploits-450601.html) Robbie Keane [singing his praises](https://www.rte.ie/sport/euro-2016/2016/0623/797569-keane-hails-brady-and-hendrick/) for his performances in France. A couple of months later, he became Burnley’s [then-record signing](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37230194) as the Clarets spent £10.5m to lure him from Derby, which up to then had been his [only senior club](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jeff-hendrick/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148262/verein/1132).

The Irishman made [31 Premier League starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86454/History/Jeff-Hendrick) as Sean Dyche’s team retained their top-flight status a year after winning promotion, with Hendrick contributing [two goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86454/History/Jeff-Hendrick) in that campaign. The second was a real gem, a [sumptuous 25-yard volley](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/38193053) in a 3-2 win over Bournemouth at Turf Moor.

Another [34 league appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86454/History/Jeff-Hendrick) followed in 2017/18 as the Irish midfielder helped Burnley to [qualify for Europe](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44018738) thanks to their excellent seventh-placed finish. He again chipped in with [two goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86454/History/Jeff-Hendrick), one of which saw the Clarets cap a [marvellous 24-pass move](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41376505) in a 1-0 win at Everton.

Hendrick ended his third season at Turf Moor with [three goals in 32 Premier League games](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86454/History/Jeff-Hendrick), including [another delicious volley](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47930720) as Dyche’s team drew 2-2 at Chelsea. Upon signing a new contract earlier in the season, the manager [lauded the Irishman’s versatility](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11708/11587157/jeff-hendrick-signs-one-year-contract-extension-with-burnley) – he has played in no fewer than six midfield roles in his time at Burnley, ranging from holding midfielder to number 10, as well as playing on both flanks (as per [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jeff-hendrick/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148262/verein/1132)).

The 28-year-old kept up his [two-goal average](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86454/History/Jeff-Hendrick) in this season’s league campaign but won’t get the chance to add to that in claret in 2020/21, as it was [confirmed earlier in the week](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11708/12014717/jeff-hendrick-rejects-burnley-contract-offer-amid-ac-milan-interest) that he will leave the club once his contract expires on Tuesday.

Hendrick has never been a Hollywood performer to constantly get fans out of their seats but, as per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86454/History/Jeff-Hendrick), his match averages for key components of the game such as tackles won, interceptions, dribbling and efficient passing, as well as the occasional bit of goal-scoring were on a steady and consistent level in his four years at Turf Moor.

Clubs such as AC Milan ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11708/11996997/jeff-hendrick-burnley-midfielder-attracts-ac-milan-interest)), Roma ([Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/roma-76946)) and Newcastle ([Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-transfers-brady-hendrick-burnley-18003848)) are reportedly interested in pouncing for the Irish midfielder and, having made [22 or more league starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86454/History/Jeff-Hendrick) in every season that he has been at the club, Hendrick will [no doubt be missed by Sean Dyche](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/breaking-burnley-hendrick-bardsley-dyche-18444555) – and probably many Burnley supporters – as he prepares to say his goodbyes.
