# Manchester United: Cody Gakpo ‘not deterred’ by failed summer move

**[Transfer expert Dean Jones](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer) says that Cody Gakpo is ‘not deterred’ by a failed move to [Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) in the summer, ahead of a potential January switch to Old Trafford.**

### The Lowdown: Gakpo speaks out

In a recent interview with Dutch media outlet [NRC](https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2022/12/07/cody-gakpo-ik-probeer-de-lessen-vanuit-mijn-kerk-zo-goed-mogelijk-over-te-brengen-op-anderen-a4150766), the 23-year-old has admitted that he would consider a move to United if they were to open talks during the early stages of 2023.

He also suggested that missing out on a summer move to the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) was tough to take, after initially believing that a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards, while he also snubbed an approach from Leeds United.

There have recently been [reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/man-utd-confident-cody-gakpo-january-transfer/) that the Red Devils are confident that they can finally lure Gakpo away from PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window.

### The Latest: Jones update

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88093049-man-utd-transfer-news-star-on-top-of-world-admission-old-trafford-move), Jones has shared that Gakpo is ‘not deterred’ by the fact that he didn’t get a move to Erik ten Hag’s side in the summer, adding that he ‘knows’ that he is rated highly at United.

The journalist said: *“Gakpo knows United rate him and I’m told he is not deterred by the fact no deal went ahead last summer.*

*“This is a player on top of the world, who wants to play through the middle and score goals.* *That sort of confidence will convince him that he should be a starter for United if they go ahead and sign him.”*

### The Verdict: Exciting

It is certainly exciting for United supporters to hear that Gakpo has not been deterred by a failed summer move to Old Trafford, and that there should be confidence that a deal can be done in January instead.

Hailed as ‘[something special](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1596174086941835265?s=20&t=rf9AR0YwstNgVOxtgN4YtQ)‘ by renowned football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano after his heroics for the Netherlands in the [World Cup](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/world-cup-2022/) in Qatar, the 23-year-old excelled for his country, scoring [three goals in his opening three games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/nationalmannschaft/spieler/434675/verein_id/3379/plus/0?hauptwettbewerb=&wettbewerb_id=WM22&trainer_id=&start=Jun+13%2C+2021&ende=Dec+11%2C+2022&nurEinsatz=0).

The [6 foot 3](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/profil/spieler/434675) winger carried on his remarkable club form of [30 goal contributions in just 24 matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/434675/plus/0?saison=2022&verein=383&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for PSV before the mid-season break, and at just 23 years of age, he has such a bright future.

Gakpo would no doubt be a statement signing for Ten Hag at United if they can pull it off in 2023.
