Ahead of their return to the Premier League next season, the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited for what could be a busy summer of activity.

A club finally embarking on some form of upward trajectory under the stewardship of Rafa Benitez, the Magpies are always likely to be linked with a raft of talents from across the footballing globe.

Indeed, the latest transfer reports in regards to the Toon Army. According to SBS, the Tyneside titans have made a bid for Manchester City midfielder Aaron Mooy, following his impressive campaign on loan with Championship rivals Huddersfield Town.

The Austrailian was a revelation for the Terriers – who still could join Newcastle in the Premier League – providing seven assists for David Wagners’s pulsating side. With creativity proving to be such an issue for the Magpies, who seriously struggle without Jonjo Shelvey, the 26-year-old would be a wonderful addition.

Able to operate as either a No.10 or on either flank, Mooy is a versatile attack and can play major roles in fluid attacks to spearhead either a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 formation. Crucially, he’s also able to step back into central midfield and create potential interchanges with the aforementioned Shelvey, should the latter bomb forward.

At a reported £10m, he may seem expensive, though could give Newcastle another spark – something that seemed to desert them at crucial times during the Championship campaign.

To take the pressure off of Shelvey – a liability at times – Mooy’s ideal for Newcastle United.
