### **The Verdict: Big loss**

When analysing the forward’s underlying statistics, it is easy to see why City fans would consider the 27-year-old’s departure a huge blow for the club.

When compared with positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, Sterling ranks in the 99th percentile for non-penalty expected goals, the 98th percentile for touches in the attacking penalty area and the 97th percentile for non-penalty expected goals plus expected assists (via [FBRef](https://fbref.com/en/players/b400bde0/Raheem-Sterling)).

With the England star having [featured 337 times for the Sky Blues](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raheem-sterling/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/134425/verein/281), his exit from the Etihad Stadium will likely come as a major disappointment to City’s squad, as they are losing one of the most experienced players in the Premier League [currently](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/appearances?co=1&se=-1&cl=-1&iso=-1&po=-1?se=-1).
