# Rangers: Jonny McFarlane criticises Connor Goldson’s defending

**The Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane criticised Connor Goldson’s defending as [Glasgow Rangers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/) conceded the opening goal on Tuesday night.**

### The Lowdown: Disappointing draw

The Ibrox outfit would have felt disappointed with a 2-2 draw in the end, having found themselves pegged back at 2-1 by PSV late on in the second half.

The hosts recorded more possession and shots on goal ([SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/psv-eindhoven-rangers/bXscjb)), but in the end it was not enough to take an advantage into the second leg.

### The Latest: Goldson criticised

Taking to Twitter after PSV took the lead from a corner through Ibrahim Sangare, [McFarlane](https://twitter.com/jonnyrmcfarlane/status/1559625783701917697) criticised Goldson’s defending in the lead up to the goal, staying:

*“Poor defending from Goldson there. Rangers have looked shaky at set-pieces so far this season and they were punished. Break of the ball unfortunate but that’s a big blow.”*

### The Verdict: Costly

Goldson’s mistake proved costly in the end, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team had to settle for a draw rather than going to the Netherlands with a one-goal advantage.

The Rangers defender [appeared](https://twitter.com/btsportfootball/status/1559626236967747584) to mistime his header, leaving the ball in a dangerous area in the penalty box before Sangare slashed home.

Goldson did not look comfortable during the game, picking up a yellow card just short of the hour mark, while he also lost five of his duels, recorded no interceptions and lost the ball a total of 18 times, the second-most of any player on the pitch ([SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/psv-eindhoven-rangers/bXscjb)).

The 29-year-old will have to perform better if the Gers are to come away with a win in the return leg and book themselves a place in the Champions League group stage.
