# Rangers: Fans call for George Edmundson to come into the team after defensive mishaps at St Johnstone

**A number of Rangers fans have been pleading for centre-back George Edmundson to be restored to the starting line-up following costly errors from some of his defensive team-mates on Sunday.**

Both of St Johnstone’s goals in the 2-2 draw at McDiarmid Park stemmed from miscued clearances by Nikola Katic, whose centre-back partner Connor Goldson was beaten by Stevie May to the flick-on for the striker’s equalising goal in the 80th minute. Those defensive mishaps prompted Steven Gerrard to say after the match that the ‘Gers need the [injured Filip Helander](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/filip-helander-suffers-fresh-blow-21425712) “back fit sharpish”. \[[via BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51519189)\]

Edmundson was on the Light Blues’ bench against the Saints, with the 22-year-old now having nothing more than a watching brief for the fourth match in succession having last featured in the Scottish Cup win over Hamilton earlier this month (as per [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/george-edmundson/leistungsdaten/spieler/385848)). His performance that afternoon was [criticised by some Rangers fans](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premier/rangers/rangers-fans-left-seething-with-george-edmundson-after-hamilton-academical-victory/), despite him [scoring in the league win over Hibernian](https://www.skysports.com/football/rangers-vs-hibernian/411367) three days previously.

After Sunday’s disappointment in Perth, these ‘Gers supporters on Twitter have called for Edmundson to be included in the starting line-up once again:

> What I noticed was as soon as hagi is subbed we go back downhill. Edmundson needs a chance to start now and remove katic, too many mistakes. I was a katic fan but now I think Gerrard needs to start removing players who aren’t performing.
