# Rangers: Fans choose Michael Mols’ injury as ‘sliding doors moment’

**Rangers fans were voicing their opinion on what they thought was a huge ‘sliding doors moment’ and it’s fair to say, there was one which stood out among the many replies.**

Journalist [Jordan Campbell](https://twitter.com/JordanC1107/status/1240243690024718337) posed the question and according to some, the injury suffered by Michael Mols was a moment which ‘could have changed the course of football history’. The Dutch striker suffered a horrible knee issue after clashing with [Bayern Munich ‘keeper Oliver Kahn](https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sport/football/champions_league/503945.stm) during a Champions League game back in 1999. The striker had [scored 13 times in his opening 20 games](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40830521) for the club before the unfortunate incident, highlighting why the fans picked him.

Overall, he scored 48 goals in 147 appearances across all competitions as he [failed to fully recover](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40830521) from the setback [(via Soccerbase)](https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=17001). That said, he was still at the club throughout a hugely successful time and went on to win many trophies, including the domestic treble following the [2002/2003 campaign](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40830521). Supporters were adamant his injury was a ‘sliding doors moment’ as they took to Twitter to react on what one called a ‘huge’ setback. Here are some tweets:

> The Mols injury – he was on fire up until that point – looked a real world beater. The Durrant injury was also a bit of a watershed – didn’t come back as the same player

> Michael Mols getting injured against Bayern. Honestly think we would have went to the late stages with him fully fit. He was unreal.
