# Rangers: Fans dreading the use of VAR in Europa League knockout rounds

**A number of Rangers fans have not reacted well to a tweet from the club ([@RangersFC](https://twitter.com/RangersFC/status/1229511750632034305)) confirming that VAR will be in use at Ibrox on Thursday for the Europa League last 32 clash against Braga.**

The ‘Gers shared a tweet from UEFA ([@UEFA](https://twitter.com/UEFA/status/1229417195219947521)) outlining how VAR can be used in its competitions, with the technology potentially called upon for four match-changing situations – goals, possible penalties, potential red card incidents and instances of mistaken identity.

In the Europa League, VAR is introduced [from the beginning of the knockout stages](https://www.uefa.com/insideuefa/news/newsid=2638650.html), whereas the technology is [utilised from the play-off rounds onward](https://www.uefa.com/insideuefa/news/newsid=2573203.html) in the Champions League. It has also been introduced to the English Premier League this season, although not to everyone’s liking.

As noted by [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50196675), several managers and pundits have slammed the use of the technology, while several Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was livid after Harry Maguire was not sent off for a potential red card incident in their defeat to Manchester United last night, even after a VAR review (as per [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8014199/Frank-Lampard-fumes-VAR-not-sending-Harry-Maguire.html)).

These Rangers fans on Twitter aren’t looking forward to VAR’s introduction for the knockout rounds of the Europa League:
