# Rangers: Fans gush over George Edmundson’s performance against Braga

**Plenty of Rangers fans were singing the praises of defender George Edmundson after his performance in the 1-0 win over Braga that [took them through to the last 16](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51598715) of the Europa League.**

The 22-year-old had not played in Europe [since the early qualifying rounds](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/george-edmundson/leistungsdaten/spieler/385848) back in July but he was [given his chance at centre-back](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51598715) by Steven Gerrard as Nikola Katic paid the price for his [error-strewn display](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51519189) against St Johnstone last Sunday.

The former Oldham defender repaid his manager’s faith with a stellar display that helped his team to record a clean sheet at a ground where Braga scored [eight times in three group games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sc-braga/spielplan/verein/1075/saison_id/2019). He won [three headers](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1436024/LiveStatistics/Europe-Europa-League-2019-2020-Braga-Rangers) against the Portuguese outfit and made [eight clearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1436024/LiveStatistics/Europe-Europa-League-2019-2020-Braga-Rangers), while several reporters lauded his performance. [BBC Scotland](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51598715)‘s Alasdair Lamont described Edmundson as “a colossus” in his match report while the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-player-ratings-george-edmundson-21584252)‘s Gavin Berry gave him a nine in his player ratings, saying that he was “immense and a rock in the heart of the Light Blues rearguard”.
