# Rangers: Fans slam former captain as he jumps on the Odsonne Edouard bandwagon

**Rangers legend, Barry Ferguson, has jumped on the Odsonne Edouard bandwagon by claiming he could become a better player than Moussa Dembele and make the Parkhead club more money than the [£19.7m Lyon](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45377409) paid in 2018, per [The Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtics-unstoppable-odsonne-edouard-can-20636876).**

Ferguson has not endeared himself with Rangers fans by being seen as a cheerleader for the Parkhead club’s star player. With [Edouard](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/schnellsuche/ergebnis/schnellsuche?query=odsonne+edouard&x=0&y=0) being outperformed over the last two seasons by Ibrox rival [Alfredo Morelos](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/profil/spieler/338962), many see it as a strange statement to make.

Indeed, having scored [30 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/338962/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) in all competitions last season alone, it is not a surprise to see some Rangers fans left baffled by Ferguson’s take.

Ferguson said of “French Eddy” when asked about the comparison with Dembele:

“Yeah, he’s a player that could potentially be better than Dembele. I have said that a number of times. I’ve always been impressed. When he is on his game I think he is unstoppable at times”.

“He obviously continues it when he goes away with the French U-21 squad and if he keeps producing performances like that he will be in the first-team squad”.

Rangers fans took to Twitter to criticise Ferguson’s perceived favouritism considering his own allegiances and playing career, with some mocking Edouard’s recent domestic performances.

Have a look at what they have had to say below…

> If he’s unstoppable then what’s Defoe & Morelos , Edouard isn’t even the best striker in Glasgow

> Adored Barry as I was growing up. What a player. I actively avoid anything he’s quoted as saying or articles he’s written so as not to spoil it.

> No, just loyalty. He got paid handsomely for doing something many of us would have died to do just once.
