The Sweden international appeared to come into Steven Gerrard’s side at the expense of Nikola Katic and it appears it was a rather inspired change by the Ibrox chief.

The 26-year-old enforcer was playing in just his [third match for the Gers](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/107072/Show/Filip-Helander) and his first in the Europa League following his [estimated £3.5m](https://www.skysports.com/app/transfer/news/11788/11762308/rangers-sign-defender-filip-helander-from-bologna) move from Bologna in the summer.

Indeed, despite the Ibrox surroundings still being relatively new to him, Helander did not look at all out of place on the field and put in an impressive display.

According to data collected by [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1427259/LiveStatistics/Europe-UEFA-Europa-League-2019-2020-Rangers-Feyenoord), the Swede managed to make three clearances, blocked one shot and won aerial duels against the Feyenoord attackers, although he only achieved a match rating of just 6.65.

However, [Rangers News](https://www.rangersnews.uk/news/rangers-ratings-feyenoord-europa-league/) handed him a seven in their ratings as they were impressed with the defender’s contribution as they also felt he did not look out of place in the side, despite his lack of match action.

Fans took to Twitter to echo those thoughts as well, with many praising Helander for his performance at the back.

Here are just some of those reactions…

> Should’ve had the job done at half time. Big Helander strolling it at a canter, good 3 points

> Just back from Ibrox. An emotionally charged night and thankfully a Rangers victory. A team effort but I dig the big swede at the back. Helander was rock solid tonight. That’s what £4m gets you!!

> Impressed with Helander tonight. Looks solid and he’s a unit. Borna looked like the player we’ve all thought he could be. Buffalo had a great game. Could of been 3 or 4 but I’ll take that.
