Glasgow Rangers have reportedly made Michael Beale their 'top target' to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst if he leaves Ibrox.

The Lowdown: Under pressure

Van Bronckhorst is reportedly under growing pressure to be sacked after another bad result in the Scottish Premiership at Saturday lunchtime against St Mirren.

The 1-1 draw means that the Gers are now nine points behind bitter rivals Celtic at the top of the table, and the recent poor run of form suggests that they will find it very difficult to claw that back.

Nonetheless, with the break for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar approaching, now presents an ideal opportunity for the board to change managers in order for a fresh start when the league season resumes.

The Latest: Beale 'top target'

As per Football Insider, QPR manager Beale is the 'top target' to replace Van Bronckhorst, should he leave the club.

Director of Football Ross Wilson will 'lead the way' in identifying his successor, and he is 'good friends' with Beale. The 42-year-old was Steven Gerrard's assistant when he was in charge, and he described Beale as 'special' on the training pitch.

Beale then left to manage QPR, who he has guided to a promotion fight in the English Championship, and was linked with taking the job at Premier League Wolves before he rejected the opportunity.

The Verdict: Get it done

Unfortunately, Van Bronckhorst has run his course as manager of the Light Blues, and a change appears to be needed. Beale could be a very smart appointment, considering that he knows the club and director well, and he will be able to impose his own philosophy on the team in time for the league season to resume.

The fact that he was strongly linked with an English Premier League job highlights his credentials, and having worked with Gerrard, who brought the SPFL title to the Teddy Bears in the 2020/21 term, the supporters would likely warm to him straight away.
