Writing for The Scottish Sun, Kris Boyd says he believes George Edmundson and Jordan Jones will not play for Glasgow Rangers again.
Rangers duo finished at Ibrox
Edmundson and Jones have attracted negative headlines over the past few days after they ignored coronavirus regulations to attend a private gathering at the weekend. The Gers have confirmed they will launch an investigation into the matter.
Former Gers striker Boyd believes that there is no way back for the two. He wrote:
“Jones and Edmundson are not young kids any more. They should have known better and deserve all that’s coming to them.
“Maybe Rangers will go easy. Maybe they’ll wrap their knuckles and fine them a few weeks’ wages for stepping out of line.
“But if you’re asking me if there is any way back for them, then I have to say I can’t see it.
“In my opinion, we won’t see them in a light blue jersey again. Chances are, they will be shipped out as soon as the transfer window opens.
“It’s an issue of trust. And I suspect Steven Gerrard will take a dim view of two players who weren’t thinking about the team when they decided it was time to party.”
Whilst both have let Steven Gerrard down with their idiotic behaviour, the two situations are different. Edmundson could well be given another chance at the 54-time Scottish champions. Only 23 years of age, there have been few rumours of him causing problems at the club, and he is a fan favourite. This is a poor error of judgement and puts him on a tightrope, but there is still time for him to turn things around.
Should both of these players be sacked?
For Jones, though, this could already be the end of the road. His attitude has previously been criticised by Gerrard, and he was set to leave the club during the summer. He appeared to work his way back into the boss’ plans after scoring against Motherwell, but all of that improvement now looks to have been undone. It seems that Jones does not have the right mentality to be at a huge club like the Gers – his departure could well be imminent.
In other news, this Gers fan favourite scores for his new club.
