Ross McCausland could reportedly now leave Glasgow Rangers on loan ahead of the new season.
The Lowdown: Season underway
McCausland’s season is already underway, as he came off the bench in a 4-3 win away at East Kilbride in the B-team’s Scottish Lowland League fixture on Tuesday night.
The winger has only made one appearance for the senior side, but he did grab an assist in a 3-1 win away win at Hearts in the Scottish Premiership last season (Transfermarkt).
The Latest: Doncaster interest
As per Football Insider, English club Doncaster Rovers have now made a move to try and sign McCausland on loan, and the Ibrox outfit are willing to let him leave on a temporary basis.
He recently played and scored in a trial friendly for De Graafschap against Willem II ahead of a possible loan switch, although the Dutch team did not take up the option, and so McCausland could be heading off to England instead.
The Verdict: Right call
It would be good for McCausland to get some regular game time playing senior men’s football, in order to help the 19-year-old’s development.
Should Rangers have hired van Bronckhorst?
He signed a contract last season to keep him at the Gers until 2024, and so there are clearly high hopes for him and plenty of time left to develop.
Nonetheless, the Northern Irishman will be looking to impress Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who will no doubt be monitoring his progress with a view to bringing him into the first-team fold in 2023.
