The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell has now revealed some Glasgow Rangers transfer news involving Ben Williamson.

The Lowdown: Another one out?

As per Italian football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Joe Aribo is now set to leave Ibrox to sign for Southampton in the Premier League, with official confirmation of the transfer set to come soon.

With the arrivals of Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence through the doors at Ibrox, others may follow Aribo out of the Premiership club before the new season starts.

The Latest: Williamson loan exit likely

Taking to Twitter, Campbell has revealed that Williamson is now 'expected' to sign a new deal with Rangers before heading out on loan.

The reporter stated: "Understand Rangers midfielder Ben Williamson is expected to sign a new contract before heading out on loan. The Scottish Championship is the likeliest destination, with Dundee & Partick Thistle fighting for his signature. EFL clubs have also enquired."

The Verdict: Good move

Williamson will turn 21 next month, so he needs to be playing regularly in order to further his development.

The central midfielder has never actually made a senior appearance for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team, although he has appeared at youth level for Rangers and has played senior football for other Scottish clubs (Transfermarkt).

The Light Blues clearly see a future with him by offering him a new contract, but at this stage of his career, sending Williamson out on loan is probably best for all parties involved.

Hopefully the Scotland under-21 international can come back from his next loan move ready to break into the Rangers first team in the 2023/24 campaign.
