Rangers battling Premier League clubs to sign Filip Skorb - Rangers News

Rangers are battling Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Leeds United for the signature of talented teenage striker Filip Skorb, according to a report.

The Lowdown: Rangers prioritising youth

The Gers have made multiple new additions to their youth team in recent weeks, recently bringing in 16-year-old duo Blaine McClure and Callum Burnside, who both impressed in the academy of Northern Irish club Linfield.

There has been a focus on signing quality young players since the summer, acquiring Bailey Rice from Motherwell for an undisclosed fee back in June, who has since been targeted by Real Madrid and other European giants.

In terms of in-house deals, there has also been a new contract offer tabled to young forward Arron Lyall in weeks, with the hope he commits his long-term future to the club.

The Latest: Skorb in demand

According to a report from the Daily Record, Skorb has become the latest exciting young player to be targeted by Rangers, and the Portobello CFA Thistle player is set to feature for the Light Blues as a trialist in a tournament against Manchester United this weekend.

However, there will be stiff competition for the youngster’s signature, as he has already had a successful visit down at Leeds United, while also being invited to visit Newcastle United over the coming weeks.

The Gers are in the market for a new striker as a result of Kemar Roofe’s injury woes, and because Alfredo Morelos’ future at the club remains uncertain, but Skorb would initially come in as an academy player, with the plan for him to one day develop into a first-team star.

The Verdict: Exciting prospect

It is likely to be a few more years before the starlet is ready to take part in first-team football, however he appears to be another exciting young prospect, given his goal-scoring exploits with Portobello CFA Thistle.

That said, it is vital that Rangers bring in a new senior option to replace Morelos this summer, should the Colombian be unwilling to sign a new deal, as his attacking contributions would be sorely missed, recording nine goals and six assists in the league this season.

Josh Maja is considered a ‘top target’ for the Gers, and alongside Skorb, he would be an excellent addition to Michael Beale’s squad, weighing in with 16 goal contributions in 28 league games for Bordeaux so far this season.
