Glasgow Rangers insider The 4th Official has now dropped an interesting transfer claim on reported Ibrox target Theo Bongonda.

The Lowdown: Reported target

It was reported from Belgium on Wednesday morning that Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team have 'set their sights' on the 26-year-old and are able to pay a fee of between €6m and €8m (£5.1-6.8m) for the Genk winger.

There is also reported 'interest' from the United Arab Emirates, although Bongonda would 'rather' sign for a club in Europe.

The Latest: Bongonda claim

Taking to Twitter, The 4th Official has now quashed the rumours of the Gers potentially being interested in signing Bongonda in this summer's transfer window:

The Ibrox insider stated: "I really doubt there is any Rangers interest in Theo Bongonda."

The Verdict: Unlikely

It seems very unlikely that the Light Blues will go on and sign Bongonda now, given that they have completed a move for fellow winger Tom Lawrence from Derby County.

Hailed as ‘excellent’ by journalist Raphael Jardon in 2020, the DR Congo international has gone on to score 36 goals and provide a further 20 assists in 111 games over all competitions for Genk (Transfermarkt), and he would have been considered a decent signing by the Teddy Bears.

However, following Lawrence's arrival, it looks as if Rangers may now cool their reported interest in the 26-year-old and instead focus on strengthening in other areas of the pitch.
