There have been quite a few signings at Glasgow Rangers in this transfer window, including the likes of Cedric Itten and Leon Balogun, but it seems that there will also be some leaving before the transfer window shuts.
According to Football Insider, ‘Gers attacker Josh McPake is close to a move to Scottish Championship side Morton. This move could be completed as soon as tomorrow, with the player already completing his medical and looking to sign a contract as he secures a loan move away from Ibrox. The move is set to last until January.
The 19-year-old has featured in the UEFA Youth League for the ‘Gers and also played 23 minutes in Europa League qualifying for the first team, per Transfermarkt. He has made just eight senior career appearances, picking up two goals for the Light Blues’ reserve side, so a loan move to obtain further first team experience makes sense.
His potential has been noted by Scotland as he has featured five times for his country’s under-19 side and scored once, per Transfermarkt. With the loan only lasting until January, it hints that Steven Gerrard believes in McPake’s potential and, if he performs well at Morton, they can bring him back to help with their Scottish Premiership campaign during the second half of the season.
This move benefits all parties as the player will be able to play some consistent first team football and help Morton in their Championship campaign, whilst the ‘Gers can see him showcase his abilities and assess how he performs in a first team environment.
