Kemar Roofe has been hailed as “a smart signing” for Glasgow Rangers by former England striker Kevin Phillips.
Speaking to Football Insider about Roofe, Phillips said: “I think that is a smart signing, He will do well up there.
“He was at the Baggies for a bit and while it did not work out he went to Leeds and did well. There was a bit of disillusion when he left because he enjoyed success late on.
“I’m sure he will do well in Scotland. He is the type of player that will fit in well. Playing for Rangers he will get a lot of the ball and a lot of opportunity.
“We have seen at Leeds that he has ability so I see him thriving up there, I think he’s going to do very well.”
Roofe has played 302 games in his career, including 78 in the under-23 team at West Bromwich Albion, and has scored 96 goals whilst also providing 50 assists, per Transfermarkt.
This highlights the ability that he has in the final third. He has played at a club with such a presence and pressure like Leeds, as well as Anderlecht, a club with high expectations as they have often featured in the Champions League in the past, and this emphasises that he can perform well at clubs where results are demanded rather than hoped for.
It is a big opportunity for the striker as he is coming to the prime stages of his career and that should drive him even more to perform well and succeed at Ibrox.
Hopefully he can maintain or improve upon his decent scoring return from last season, when he netted seven goals in 16 appearances for Anderlecht.
